I’m forwarding for your information a message my husband and I sent to the City Engineer just after Christmas. We hope that the current council will not rescind the earlier decision to close First Street. We appreciate the call for an end to cul-de-sacs in general, but in this special case of safety for frisbee players and little kids chasing balls, it seems that Way Park could be grandfathered in.
Many thanks, and best wishes as you begin your term on the City Council. It’s already clear that a page has definitely been turned.

We write to support the proposal to join the two parts of Way Park by closing First Street where it passes through the park. The park will be much safer without vehicle traffic going through the middle of the park.
Instead of large residential-style cul-de-sacs that enable vehicles to make a complete turn-around circle, it would make more sense to construct several head-in parking spaces at each point where First Street dead-ends into Way park. This way less parkland would be lost to street pavement and most of the loss would provide parking for park patrons.
Hey Betsey: I saw your post on locally grown about the green roof and I actually AM interested in helping sling dirt, if I can take pictures for a story I may be writing on green roofs. Let me know.
